Stone Kitchen Backsplash: Bring the Outdoor Feel To Your Kitchen

The area behind your cooktop is quite often the visual center of your kitchen.  It is also an area of your kitchen that is quite prone to stains and spills.  Because of this, you will want to take care that you reduce the areas potential for stains to set.  If you simply have a painted drywall backsplash, the likelihood of staining is actually quite high.  Instead, you can look into having a stone kitchen backsplash to add instant style and durability to your kitchen.

If you are looking for a cutting edge contemporary look to your kitchen then the key is simple and clean lines on your backsplash.  One great way to achieve this look is to use the same material on your countertop as you are using on your backsplash.  You will not want to use a busy looking stone, or try to incorporate a pattern into your stonework if you are looking for a contemporary look.

However, if you are looking for more of an old world feel to your stone kitchen backsplash, then you will most certainly want to look at busy, patterned, and different stones.  For this, you will want to look into hand painted stones, cobblestones, and even chipped and worn stones.  This will give your kitchen an antique feel that comes with age and tradition.  In this style, you will want to steer clear of bright and bold colors and instead focus on earth tones like soft butter yellows, gentle browns, or warm creams.

There is also a very popular design motif, and that is a Mediterranean design.  With this style, you can get more of the bright colors that you may be looking for, and you can do this with great natural stones like limestone.  You can bring in some of the bright cobalt blues of the Mediterranean with the soft creaminess of the limestone.  This will give your stone kitchen backsplash a beautiful European feel that will make you feel like you have escaped every time that you set foot into the kitchen.

No matter what the style of your stone kitchen backsplash the important thing to do is to care for it correctly.  To care for any type of stone you will want to be sure that you are using a cleanser that is non-abrasive, and when applying it you will want to use a soft cloth.  This is great for daily cleaning, but be sure to occasionally give your backsplash a deep clean so that it maintains its original beauty and shines.
