A few years ago my wife and I painted a kithen countertop wuth melamine paint. No primer needed and it adheres very well. You can also get one or more colors to dab in. Use one as your base coat and use a sea sponge to dab the other colors while your base coat is still wet. As an alternative try scrunching a plastic bag to dab colors on. One precaution however. Make sure you have adequate ventilation. You may need to leave the house for a few hours afterwards while it dries. The fumes are somewhat toxic.
References :
Worst thing you will ever do is try and paint laminate.

For one thing even the toughest paints are EASILY cut by a slipped knife. And there is no way at all to patch it and not have it stand out.

And even the best primer made specifically to stick to laminate doesn't stick all that great. Plus you have to rough sand the counter top before you prime, meaning you can never really strip it and leave it plain again.

I have done it(different look than granite, though same process) does look good and can look good for a long time. Of course the people I did it for paid cash for a 3 story ocean front home and didn't know what the term "cooking" actually meant.
References :
I'm a professional painter.

Paint will not be up to the wear and tear on a counter top. You could tile with real or fake granite tiles.
References :
You need a very special paint and don't get your hopes up.

As the site shows, you might have better luck re-laminating with a granite-pattern HPDL.
